Acclaimed Japanese modern dancer Emi Hatano will teach a one-day workshop on modern dance theory at the Secret Rose Theatre on Thursday, August 17, from 10 am - 4 pm.

On Sunday, August 20, Professor Hatano will hold an exclusive performance at 2 p.m. She and her assistant, Yukiko Hatano, will dance an excerpt her work "BIO", a winner of the Japanese Dance Critics Award.

Ms. Hatano is a professor at Nihon University, Tokyo, Japan. She has taught in Europe and New York, focusing especially on exploring the connection between human behavior, movement, and one's state of mind. Her latest book (Expression and Possibility: Toward a Unified Theory of Modern Dance) is available from HCI Publications.

This workshop will focus on physical image training; improvisational movement; and body language. Not only will dancers benefit, but actors and even members of the general public will find much to interest and intrigue them as well.
